Back by popular demand! Join GUFC in Statesboro on June 26th, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for its seminar "Trees, Urban Design, and Stormwater Management." This session will be held in the Nesmith-Lane Continuing Education Building at Georgia Southern University, and is co-sponsored by the Georgia Southern Botanical Garden. Registration is $30 for members and $40 for nonmembers. Lunch is included and CEUs will be available. To register, click on the headline on the GUFC homepage and download the registration form.
About the speakers and the program:
Ron Sawhill has practiced landscape architecture since 1980 and is registered professionally in Georgia and South Carolina. His teaching and research continues to focus on better integrating stormwater management into the overall site design process in order to produce site developments that respect and respond to existing natural conditions and long-term environmental health. At this program, Ron will present an overview of our “addiction to imperviousness,” the need to design to restore the hydrologic process, and the importance of maximizing vegetation, especially trees.
Bill Hodgins is Engineer with Savannah’s Stormwater Management Department, and
David Oettinger is a municipal arborist with Savannah’s Park and Tree Department.
These experienced professionals will explore and explain the beneficial relationship between stormwater management and urban tree preservation, with an emphasis on pervious paving systems. Several Savannah case studies will be presented and discussed.
Program co-sponsored by the Georgia Southern Botanical Garden.
Registration: $30 for members and $40 for non-members
Lunch is included. CEUs available for ISA, SAF. Professional Development Certificates available for all.
Driving directions
From Savannah: Take I-16 West to State Highway 67 (Exit 127) Turn right and go north toward Statesboro. At the 5th traffic light, turn left onto Chandler Road. Proceed to the 3rd stop light on Plant Drive and turn right. The Nessmith-Lane Building is located at the corner of Chandler Road and Plant Drive.
From Atlanta and Macon: Take I-75 South to Macon, and then take 1-16 East to U.S. Highway 301 (Exit 116). Turn left and go north on Highway 301 to Statesboro. At the 3rd traffic light, turn right onto Veterans Memorial Bypass. Go the next traffic light and turn left onto Lanier Drive. Go past Paulson Stadium and turn left at the traffic light onto Chandler Road. Once on Chandler Road, turn left at the 1st traffic light onto Plant Drive. The Nessmith-Lane Building is located at the corner of Chandler Road and Plant Drive.
