Please check this page for updates.
The 2008-09 Tree Legacy Grant Recipients were Forsyth County, Fayette County Resource Education Coalition, the City of McDonough, and the Decatur Preservation Alliance. Forsyth County will be planting approximately 104 trees in Central Park utilizing best management practices and long-term maintenance. The Fayette County Resource Education Coalition will be planting approximately 40 trees at the Old Fayette County Courthouse in an effort to create a demonstration site for area residents, government officials, resource managers, and corporate planners. The plan layout will utilize new technologies and strategic planning to educate and enhance the lives of area residents while addressing many issues facing the region. Those issues include stormwater management, urban forestation, air pollution, water quality, and consumption. The City of McDonough will be planting approximately 80 trees near the Environmental Education Center within the Alexander Park Expansion in the City of McDonough. The trees will become a legacy within the park. They will help reforest the city and improve the air quality of the region while providing an educational opportunity for visitors and residents. The Decatur Preservation Alliance will plant trees in historic Decatur Cemetery. New plantings will add to Decatur’s urban forest inventory; other plantings will replace declining trees. All plantings will enhance erosion control, stabalize steep banks, and improve air and water quality. Thank you to The Home Depot Foundation for this year’s funding for the program.
